Productivity Isn’t Purpose: Learning to Remain in Him

There is a quiet tension many women carry but rarely admit:
“I’m doing everything right… so why does something still feel missing?”
We wake up early.
We pray.
We read our Bible.
We serve.
We build businesses.
We raise families.
Yet beneath all the activity, there’s a whisper in our spirit asking,
“Am I actually connected or just busy?”
In John 15, Jesus gives us an answer that shifts everything.
“Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me.” (John 15:4)
Jesus does not begin with productivity.
He begins with connection.
🌿 Remaining Is More Than Routine
Remaining in Christ is not about checking spiritual boxes.
It’s not about how early you wake up or how many verses you highlight.
Remaining is intimacy.
It’s daily dependence.
It’s choosing presence over performance.
Many women are spiritually active but emotionally distant from God. We talk to Him, but we don’t sit with Him. We ask for answers, but resist surrender.
The Legacy Woman must understand this truth:
Fruit is not produced by striving it’s produced by staying.
✂️ The Pruning Season No One Talks About
Jesus continues:
“Every branch in Me that does not produce fruit He removes, and He prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.” (John 15:2)
Pruning is uncomfortable.
It feels like loss.
It looks like delay.
God may remove what worked before so He can grow what’s needed now.
Some of us are grieving old seasons, old identities, old plans yet God is not punishing us. He is preparing us.
Pruning is proof you’re connected.
🍇 Fruit That Glorifies God
Jesus says:
“My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be My disciples.” (John 15:8)
Fruit is not applause.
Fruit is not visibility.
Fruit is not hustle.
Fruit looks like:
• Obedience when it’s inconvenient
• Peace in uncertain seasons
• Faithfulness when no one is watching
• Character being formed in private
Legacy is built quietly before it’s ever seen publicly.
💧 From the Vine to the Well
Think of the woman at the well in John 4.
She was unseen. Ashamed. Misunderstood.
One encounter with Jesus changed everything.
She didn’t leave with a strategy
She left with living water.
And that intimacy produced testimony.
When a woman remains in Christ, her life speaks louder than her effort.
🤍 A Word for the Legacy Woman
If you are tired, overwhelmed, or questioning your season pause.
Ask yourself:
• Am I remaining, or am I rushing?
• Am I producing fruit, or just activity?
• Where is God pruning me and am I resisting it?
This is not a season to do more.
It’s a season to abide deeper.
Because when you remain in Him,
your life will bear fruit that lasts.
✍🏽 Reflection Questions (Optional Add-On)
1. What does “remaining in Christ” look like in my current season?
2. Where do I sense God pruning me right now?
3. What fruit do I desire to see, and am I staying connected to the Vine?
4. Am I measuring my life by productivity or obedience?
